Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 3. Profondeur et dimension homologique

Let AA be a noetherian ring, MM a finitely generated AA-module of finite projective dimension, NN a finitely generated AA-module whose support is equal to Spec(A)\mathrm{Spec}(A). According to the preceding remark and Props. 2 and 3 of No. 2, the projective dimension nn of MM is the largest integer ii such that ExtAi(M,N)\mathrm{Ext}_A^i(M, N) is nonzero; the support of the AA-module ExtAn(M,N)\mathrm{Ext}_A^n(M, N) is the set of elements pp of Spec(A)\mathrm{Spec}(A) such that dpAp(Mp)=n\mathrm{dp}_{A_p}(M_p) = n.

There may exist finitely generated AA-modules MM of projective dimension +∞+\infty, satisfying ExtAi(M,A)=0\mathrm{Ext}_A^i(M, A) = 0 for ii sufficiently large: this is the case for example of the AA-module κA\kappa_A when AA is a Gorenstein local ring which is not regular.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
