Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 3. Profondeur et dimension homologique

Let AA be a noetherian ring, MM a finitely generated AA-module. Then dim⁡A(M)≤di⁡A(M)\dim_A(M) \leq \operatorname{di}_A(M).

Let rr be a positive integer less than dim⁡A(M)\dim_A(M). There exists a saturated chain of prime ideals p⊂p1⊂…⊂pr−1⊂qp \subset p_1 \subset \ldots \subset p_{r-1} \subset q such that pp is a minimal element of the support of MM; then the ApA_p-module MpM_p is of finite length, so that Hom⁡Ap(κ(p),Mp)≠0\operatorname{Hom}_{A_p}(\kappa(p), M_p) \neq 0, hence Ext⁡Aqr(κ(q),Mq)≠0\operatorname{Ext}^r_{A_q}(\kappa(q), M_q) \neq 0 (§ 1, No. 7, Lemma 3), which implies di⁡A(M)≥r\operatorname{di}_A(M) \geq r (No. 3, Proposition 6).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
