Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 8. Dualité des modules de longueur finie

Let I be a Matlis A-module and M a AA-module. The following conditions are equivalent :

(i) MM is artinian; (ii) every element of MM is annihilated by a power of mAm_A, and the socle of MM is of finite dimension over κA\kappa_A; (iii) there exist an integer n≥0n \geq 0 and an injective a-linear mapping of MM into InI^n.

When these conditions are satisfied, every injective envelope of MM is isomorphic to IsI^s, where ss is the dimension over κA\kappa_A of the socle of MM.

(iii) ⇒\Rightarrow (i): this is clear since the a-module II is artinian (Lemma 3).

(i) ⇒\Rightarrow (ii): suppose that MM is artinian. Let x∈Mx \in M; the decreasing sequence of submodules mAnxm_A^n x of MM is stationary. Let nn be an integer such that mAn+1x=mAnxm_A^{n+1} x = m_A^n x; Nakayama's lemma implies that mAnx=0m_A^n x = 0. On the other hand, the socle of MM is artinian as an a-module, hence also as a κA\kappa_A-vector space, which means that it is of finite dimension.

(ii) ⇒\Rightarrow (iii): suppose condition (ii) satisfied; let e:M→Je : M \to J be an injective envelope of MM. We have Ass(M)⊂{mA}\mathrm{Ass}(M) \subset \{m_A\}, hence Ass(J)⊂{mA}\mathrm{Ass}(J) \subset \{m_A\} (No. 1, Remark 2), and JJ is isomorphic to I(c)I^{(c)} for a cardinal cc (No. 1, Theorem 1). Let xx be a nonzero element of JJ annihilated by mAm_A; since the a-module AxAx is simple and its intersection with e(M)e(M) is not reduced to 0, xx belongs to e(M)e(M). Thus ee induces an isomorphism of the socle of MM onto that of JJ; consequently the socle of MM is of dimension cc, which proves (iii) as well as the last assertion.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
