Algebra, chapter IX, § 9. Algèbres de Clifford

If EE admits a basis consisting of a single element ee, T(E)T(E) is isomorphic to the polynomial algebra A[X]\mathbf{A}[X], and C(Q)C(Q) is a quadratic extension of A\mathbf{A}, having as basis (1, u)(1,\ u), where uu is the element u=ρ(e)u = \rho(e) and satisfies u2=Q(e)u^2 = Q(e).

Let ThT^h denote the hh-th tensor power ⨂hE\bigotimes^h E in T(E)T(E), and let T+T^+ (resp. T−T^-) be the sum of the ThT^h for hh even (resp. odd).

Comme T(E)T(E) is the direct sum of T+T^+ and T−T^- and I(Q)I(Q) is generated by elements of T+T^+, I(Q)I(Q) is the direct sum of T+∩I(Q)T^+ \cap I(Q) and T−∩I(Q)T^- \cap I(Q), and C(Q)C(Q) is the direct sum of the two submodules C+(Q)=σ(T+)C^+(Q) = \sigma(T^+) and C−(Q)=σ(T−)C^-(Q) = \sigma(T^-) (also denoted by C+C^+ and C−C^-). The elements of C+C^+ will be called even (resp. odd). We have the relations

(3) C+C+⊂C+,C+C−⊂C−,C−C+⊂C−,C−C−⊂C+C^+C^+ \subset C^+, \quad C^+C^- \subset C^-, \quad C^-C^+ \subset C^-, \quad C^-C^- \subset C^+.

In particular C+C^+ is a subalgebra of C(Q)C(Q).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
