Algebra, chapter X, § 3. Résolutions

Let MM be an AA-module, PP and P′P' two projective resolutions of MM; suppose that PP is minimal. Let f:P→P′f:P\to P' and g:P′→Pg:P'\to P be two morphisms of resolutions. Then ff is injective, gg is surjective, and P′P' is the direct sum of the subcomplexes Im⁡f\operatorname{Im}f and Ker⁡g\operatorname{Ker}g. Moreover Ker⁡g\operatorname{Ker}g has zero homology.

In fact, α=g∘f\alpha=g\circ f is an automorphism of PP (Prop. 8). Put f~=f∘α−1\widetilde f=f\circ\alpha^{-1}.

We have

Im⁡f~=Im⁡fandg∘f~=1P, \operatorname{Im}\widetilde f=\operatorname{Im}f \quad\text{and}\quad g\circ\widetilde f=1_P,

which shows that P′=Im⁡f~⊕Ker⁡gP'=\operatorname{Im}\widetilde f\oplus\operatorname{Ker}g. Since the sequence

0⟶Ker⁡g⟶P′→ g P⟶0 0\longrightarrow\operatorname{Ker}g\longrightarrow P' \xrightarrow{\ g\ }P\longrightarrow0

is exact and gg is a homomorphism, Ker⁡g\operatorname{Ker}g has zero homology.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
