Exercise 24, § 4

Commutative Algebra, IX, p. 82

Let AA be a semilocal noetherian ring, A^\hat{A} its completion, xx a nonzero element of the radical of AA. Suppose that AssA(A/xA)\mathrm{Ass}_A(A/xA) contains no embedded prime ideal and that, for every p∈AssA(A/xA)p \in \mathrm{Ass}_A(A/xA), the ring ApA_p is regular and the ring κ(p)⊗AA^\kappa(p) \otimes_A \hat{A} reduced. Then A^\hat{A} is reduced. (Reason as in the proof of Theorem 3, (i) ⇒\Rightarrow (ii) of § 4, No. 4.)
