(a) Let ϕ:A→B\phi : A \to B be a ring homomorphism. Show that, for every ideal bb of BB, ϕ(V(b))‾=V(ϕ−1(b))\overline{\phi(V(b))} = V(\phi^{-1}(b)).

(b) Deduce from (a) that, for aϕ(Spec⁡(B))^a\phi(\operatorname{Spec}(B)) to be dense in Spec⁡(A)\operatorname{Spec}(A), it is necessary and sufficient that Ker⁡(ϕ)\operatorname{Ker}(\phi) be a nil ideal of AA.

(c) Show that, if every b∈Bb \in B may be written as b=hϕ(a)b = h\phi(a), where hh is invertible in BB and a∈Aa \in A, aϕ^a\phi is a homeomorphism of Spec⁡(B)\operatorname{Spec}(B) onto a subspace of Spec⁡(A)\operatorname{Spec}(A).
