Commutative Algebra, III, 250

Let AA be a Commutative Noetherian ring, mm an ideal of AA and EE a finitely generated AA-module with the mm-adic topology. For every infinite set II, let EE, denote the set of families (xi)i∈I(x_i)_{i \in I} of elements of EE such that lim⁡xi=0\lim x_i = 0 with respect to the filter of complements of finite subsets of II; it is a submodule of the product AA-module EIE^I.

(a) Show that, if 0→E′→E→E′′→00 \to E' \to E \to E'' \to 0 is an exact sequence of finitely generated AA-modules, the corresponding sequence 0→E1′→E1→E1′′→00 \to E'_1 \to E_1 \to E''_1 \to 0 is exact.

(b) Define a canonical AA-homomorphism A,⊗AE→E1A, \otimes_A E \to E_1 for every AA-module EE and show that it is an isomorphism (first verify this when EE is free and finitely generated and then use (a)).

(c) Deduce from (b) that AA, is a faithfully flat AA-module.
