Let AA be a commutative Noetherian ring, mm an ideal of AA and MM and NN two finitely generated AA-modules.

(a) Suppose that MM is Hausdorff with the mm-adic topology. Show that in Hom⁡A(M,N)\operatorname{Hom}_A(M, N) with the mm-adic topology the set of injective homomorphisms is open (use no. 1, Proposition 2 and the Artin-Rees Lemma).

(b) Suppose that AA is a complete Zariski ring and mm a defining ideal of

A. For every integer ii, let Ai=A/mi+1A_i = A/m^{i+1}, Mi=M/mi+1MM_i = M/m^{i+1}M, Ni=N/mi+1NN_i = N/m^{i+1}N; show that the topological AA-module Hom⁡A(M,N)\operatorname{Hom}_A(M, N) is isomorphic to

lim⁡←Hom⁡A(Mi,Ni). \lim_{\leftarrow} \operatorname{Hom}_A(M_i, N_i).
Deduce that in Hom⁡A(M,N)\operatorname{Hom}_A(M, N) the set of surjective homomorphisms is open.
