Exercise 6, § 3

Commutative Algebra, III, 246

Let AA be a Noetherian local integral domain, mm its maximal ideal and KK its field of fractions; suppose that AA is complete with the mm-adic topology. Consider on AA a linear topology T\mathscr{T} which is finer than the mm-adic topology. Show that, if T′\mathscr{T}' is the linear topology on KK for which a fundamental system of neighbourhoods of 0 consists of the neighbourhoods of 0 in AA with the topology T\mathscr{T}, T′\mathscr{T}' is compatible with the field structure on KK and KK is complete with the topology T′\mathscr{T}'.
