Exercise 10, § 1

Commutative Algebra, IV, 287

(a) Give an example of a Z\mathbf{Z}-module M such that Ass⁡(Hom⁡Z(M,M))\operatorname{Ass}(\operatorname{Hom}_{\mathbf{Z}}(M, M)) is not contained in Supp⁡(M)\operatorname{Supp}(M) (cf. Chapter II, § 4, Exercise 24 (c)).

(b) Give an example of Z\mathbf{Z}-modules E, F such that

Ass⁡(Hom⁡Z(E,F))=0, \operatorname{Ass}(\operatorname{Hom}_{\mathbf{Z}}(E, F)) = 0,
but Ass⁡(F)∩Supp⁡(E)≠∅\operatorname{Ass}(F) \cap \operatorname{Supp}(E) \neq \varnothing (take F=ZF = \mathbf{Z}).
