Commutative Algebra, IV, 289
Let be a ring and an -module. A prime ideal of is said to be weakly associated with if there exists such that is a minimal element of the set of prime ideals containing ; we denote by the set of ideals weakly associated with . Then .
(a) Show that the relation is equivalent to .
(b) For to be such that is injective, it is necessary and sufficient that belong to no element of (note that, if belongs to the radical of an ideal where in , there exists in such that ). To show that the condition is necessary, reduce it, by considering the ring , to proving that in a ring every element belonging to a prime ideal which is minimal in the set of prime ideals of is necessarily a divisor of 0 (Chapter II, § 2, no. 6, Proposition 12).)
For to be such that is almost nilpotent, it is necessary and sufficient that belongs to all the elements of .
(c) If is a submodule of , then
(Note that, if is a prime ideal, , such that and , then .)
(d) Let be a multiplicative subset of and the set of prime ideals of not meeting . Show that is a bijection of onto . (Observe that the inverse image under the canonical mapping of the annihilator of an element , where , is the saturation with respect to of .)
(e) Let be a multiplicative subset of ; show that, if is the kernel of the canonical homomorphism , is the set of which meet and the set of which do not meet . (To prove the latter point, consider a prime ideal which is minimal in the set of those containing , where ; note that, if and , there exists and an integer such that (Chapter 11, § 2, no. 6, Proposition 12); deduce first that . There exists such that ; conclude that there can be no prime ideal such that .)
(f) For a prime ideal of to belong to , it is necessary and sufficient that it contain an element of .
(g) Show that, if is Noetherian, .
(h) If is an absolutely flat ring, then .
(i) For every -module the canonical homomorphism from to the product is injective; in other words, the intersection of the saturations of in with respect to the ideals is reduced to 0. Generalize Exercise 12 similarly.
(j) Let M be a finitely generated A-module. Show that the minimal elements of the set of prime ideals containing belong to (if is a system of generators of M, show that such an ideal contains one of the ). Deduce that is contained in (if a prime ideal contains the annihilator of the class mod. of an element , note that contains the annihilator of the submodule of M); show that , and the set of prime ideals containing have the same minimal elements.
