A local ring AA is called unibranche if its integral closure is a local ring. (a) Let AA be a local integral domain and KK its field of fractions. For AA to be unibranche, it is necessary and sufficient that every sub-AA-algebra of KK which is a finitely generated AA-module be a local ring. (b) Show that, if the completion of a Noetherian local ring AA is an integral domain, AA is unibranche (if BB is a finite AA-algebra contained in KK, show that the subring of the field of fractions of A^\hat{A} generated by BB and A^\hat{A} is isomorphic to B⊗AA^B \otimes_A \hat{A}, using the flatness of the AA-module A^\hat{A} and the fact that BB is contained in a finitely generated free AA-module contained in KK; then use (a) and Chapter III, § 2, no. 13, Corollary to Proposition 19).
