Let Ω\Omega be an extension of a field KK, EE and FF two extensions of KK contained in Ω\Omega and linearly disjoint over KK and LL an extension of KK contained in EE. Let ff be a place of EE with values in LL which reduces to the identity automorphism on KK. Show that there exists a unique place of K(E∪F)K(E \cup F) with values in K(L∪F)K(L \cup F), extending ff and reducing to the identity automorphism on FF. (If AA is the ring of ff, note that ff can be extended uniquely to a homomorphism gg from F[A]F[A] to K(L∪F)K(L \cup F) reducing to the identity on FF and that, if mm is the ideal off, every element z∈F[A]z \in F[A] such that g(z)=0g(z) = 0 can be written as xuxu, where x∈mx \in m, u∈F[A]u \in F[A] and g(u)≠0g(u) \neq 0. Conclude by noting that K(E∪F)K(E \cup F) is the field of fractions of F[A]F[A].)
