Commutative Algebra, VII, 545

(a) In the factorial polynomial domain K[X,Y]K[X, Y] in two indeterminates over a field KK, give an example of two principal ideals a,ba, b such that a+ba + b is not divisorial.

(b) Let KK be the quadratic extension of the field Q(X)\mathbf{Q}(X) of rational functions in one indeterminate over Q\mathbf{Q}, obtained by adjoining to Q(X)\mathbf{Q}(X) a root yy of the polynomial Y2−2X∈Q(X)[Y]Y^2 - 2X \in \mathbf{Q}(X)[Y]. Let AA be the subring of KK generated by Z,XZ, X and yy; AA is an integrally closed Noetherian domain. Show that p=AX+Ayp = AX + Ay is a prime ideal of height 1 but that p2p^2 is not divisorial (show that X−1p2X^{-1}p^2 is a prime ideal strictly containing pp). Moreover p.(A:p)≠Ap . (A : p) \neq A.

(c) Let AA be an integrally closed Noetherian local integral domain, whose maximal ideal mm is not of height ≤1\leq 1; let pp be a prime ideal of AA of height 1; for every integer i>0i > 0 let ai=p+mia_i = p + m^i; show that div⁡(⋂iai)\operatorname{div}(\bigcap_i a_i) is distinct from sup⁡(div⁡(ai))\sup(\operatorname{div}(a_i)).
