Let F be a group whose centre is {e}\{e\} and A its automorphism group. F is identified with a subgroup of A by means of the homomorphism Int: F→AF \to A; let Γ=A/F\Gamma = A/F.

(a) Show that the extension F→A→ΓF \to A \to \Gamma is trivial only if Γ={e}\Gamma = \{e\} (note that the centralizer of F in A is {e}\{e\}).

(b) Suppose that Γ={e}\Gamma = \{e\}. Show that every extension

F→E→G F \to E \to G

of a group G by the group F is trivial.
