Let E be a vector space over a field K.

(a) Show that every mapping ff of E into E which is permutable with every automorphism of E is of the form x↦αxx \mapsto \alpha x, where α∈K\alpha \in K (show first that for all x∈Ex \in E there exists ρ(x)∈K\rho(x) \in K such that f(x)=ρ(x)xf(x) = \rho(x)x, using the fact that ff commutes with every automorphism of E leaving xx invariant).

(b) Let gg be a mapping of E×EE \times E into E such that, for every automorphism uu of E, g(u(x),u(y))=u(g(x,y))g(u(x), u(y)) = u(g(x, y)) for all x,yx, y in E. Show that there exist two elements α,β\alpha, \beta of K such that g(x,y)=αx+βyg(x, y) = \alpha x + \beta y on the set of ordered pairs (x,y)(x, y) of linearly independent elements of E; moreover there exists a mapping ϕ\phi of K×KK \times K into K such that g(λx,μx)=ϕ(λ,μ)xg(\lambda x, \mu x) = \phi(\lambda, \mu)x for all x∈Ex \in E (same method). If further g(u(x),u(y))=u(g(x,y))g(u(x), u(y)) = u(g(x, y)) for every endomorphism uu of E, then g(x,y)=αx+βyg(x, y) = \alpha x + \beta y for all x,yx, y in E. Generalize to mappings of EnE^n into E.
