Algebra, II, 406

(a) Let E,FE, F be two left vector spaces over a field KK; for the canonical homomorphism E∗⊗KF→Hom⁡K(E,F)E^* \otimes_K F \to \operatorname{Hom}_K(E, F) to be bijective, it is necessary and sufficient that one of the spaces E,FE, F be finite-dimensional.

(b) Let EE be a right vector space and FF a left vector space over a field KK. For the canonical homomorphism E⊗KF→Hom⁡K(E∗,F)E \otimes_K F \to \operatorname{Hom}_K(E^*, F) to be bijective, it is necessary and sufficient that EE be finite-dimensional (use Exercise 3 (d)).
