Exercise 28, § 7

Algebra, II, 406

Let ρ:K→A\rho : K \to A be an injective homomorphism of a field KK into a ring AA and let EE be a left vector space over KK. For the canonical mapping (E∗)(A)→(E(A))∗(E^*)_{(A)} \to (E_{(A)})^* to be bijective, it is necessary and sufficient that EE be finite-dimensional or that AA, considered as a right vector KK-space, be finite-dimensional (use Exercise 25 (b)). When one of these two cases holds, there exists a canonical bijection (E∗∗)(A)→(E(A))∗∗(E^{**})_{(A)} \to (E_{(A)})^{**}.
