Exercise 19, § 9

Algebra, II, 417

It is set in small type as supplementary.

Let KK be a commutative field, K~\tilde{K} the projective field obtained by adjoining to KK a point at infinity (no. 9) and ff and gg two elements of K(X)K(X). Show that, writing h(X)=f(g(X))h(X) = f(g(X)), if f~,g~,h~\tilde{f}, \tilde{g}, \tilde{h} are the canonical extensions of f,g,hf, g, h to K~\tilde{K}, then h~=f~∘g~\tilde{h} = \tilde{f} \circ \tilde{g}.*
