Exercise 2, § 15

Algebra, V, p. 176

Let KK be a field of characteristic p>0p > 0, EE an extension of KK and FF a separable extension of EE. Show that any two of the following three properties imply the third : a) BB is a p-basis of EE over K(Ep)K(E^p); b) CC is a p-basis of FF over E(Fp)E(F^p); c) B⊂E, B∪CB \subset E,\ B \cup C is a p-basis of FF over K(Fp)K(F^p) and B∩C=∅B \cap C = \varnothing. (Use the fact that if (cμ)(c_\mu) is a basis of the vector E-space FF, then (cμp)(c_\mu^p) is a basis of K(Ep)[Fp]K(E^p)[F^p] over K(Ep)K(E^p) and of E[Fp]E[F^p] over EE.)
