Exercise 3, § 15

Algebra, V, p. 176

Let KK be a field of characteristic p>0p > 0, EE an extension of KK, and FF a finitely generated extension of EE. Show that the degree of imperfection of FF over KK is at least equal to that of EE over KK (reduce to the following two cases : 1" FF is separable over EE; 2" F=E(x)F = E(x), where xp∈Ex^p \in E (cf. V, p. 170, Ex. 2)).
