If EE is a separable algebraic extension of a field KK of characteristic p>0p > 0, then the largest perfect subextension Ep∞E^{p^\infty} of EE (the intersection of the fields EpnE^{p^n} for n≥0n \geq 0) is algebraic over the largest perfect subfield Kp∞K^{p^\infty} of KK. (If x∈Ep∞x \in E^{p^\infty}, show that for every integer n>0n > 0 we have xp−n∈K(x)x^{p^{-n}} \in K(x) and deduce that the minimal polynomial of xx over KpnK^{p^n} is the same as its minimal polynomial over KK.)
