Let EE be a field, GG a group of automorphisms of EE and KK the subfield of EE consisting of the elements invariant under GG. a) Show that for every subfield LL of EE which is stable for the elements of GG, LL and KK are linearly disjoint over L∩KL \cap K. (Consider a linear relation ∑λjxj=0\sum \lambda_j x_j = 0 between the elements x_j \in K which are linearly independent over L \cap K, with λj∈L\lambda_j \in L not all zero, the number of Aj≠0A_j \neq 0 being the least possible.) b) If L∩KL \cap K is the field of invariants of a group of automorphisms of K, show that L is the field of invariants of a group of automorphisms of L(K)L(K).
