Algebra, V, p. 153

The polynomial X2−2X^2 - 2 is irreducible in Q[X]\mathbf{Q}[X] (cf. I, p. 51, Th. 7); let aa be one of its roots in an algebraic closure Ω\Omega of Q\mathbf{Q}. Show that the polynomial X2−αX^2 - \alpha is irreducible over E=Q(a)E = \mathbf{Q}(a); let β\beta be one of the roots of this polynomial in Ω\Omega and let F=E(β)=Q(β)F = E(\beta) = \mathbf{Q}(\beta). Show that FF is not a quasi-Galois extension of Q\mathbf{Q}; what is the quasi-Galois extension of Q\mathbf{Q} generated by FF?
