Exercise 17, § 2

Algebra, VI, p. 41

Let K be a maximal ordered field, let gg be a nonzero polynomial in K[T] whose roots are all in K, and do not belong to the interval [0, n] of K. Show that for every polynomial f(T)=a0+a1T+…+anTnf(T) = a_0 + a_1 T + \ldots + a_n T^n of K[T], the number of roots of the polynomial

a0g(0)+a1g(1)T+a2g(2)T2+⋯ang(n)Tn a_0 g(0) + a_1 g(1) T + a_2 g(2) T^2 + \cdots a_n g(n) T^n

which do not belong to K, counted with multiplicity, is at most equal to the number of roots of ff, counted with multiplicity, which do not belong to K (same method as Ex. 16).
