Topological Vector Spaces, II, p. 75

Let E be a vector space with an enumerable basis (en)(e_n). Let V be the balanced convex envelope of the set of the ene_n and let W be the balanced convex envelope of the set of points

an=en+(n−1) e1(n≥1). a_n = e_n + (n - 1)\, e_1 \quad (n \geq 1).

Let T1\mathscr{T}_1 (resp. T2\mathscr{T}_2) be the locally convex topology on E for which a fundamental system of neighbourhoods of 0 is formed by the λV\lambda V (resp. λW\lambda W) for λ>0\lambda > 0. Show that T1\mathscr{T}_1 and T2\mathscr{T}_2 are Hausdorff, but that the lower bound of T1\mathscr{T}_1 and T2\mathscr{T}_2 in the set of locally convex topologies on E is not Hausdorff (cf. II, p. 80, exerc. 26).
