Topological Vector Spaces, II, p. 85

Let FF be a product of lines and CC a closed convex set in FF. *a) Show that there exists x0∈Fx_0 \in F, two sets II and JJ and a topological isomorphism uu of FF on RI×RJ\mathbf{R}^I \times \mathbf{R}^J such that u(x0+C)u(x_0 + C) is of the form RI×A\mathbf{R}^I \times A, where AA is a closed convex set of R+J\mathbf{R}_+^J. (Note that we have F=G∗F = G^* where FF has the topology σ(G∗,G)\sigma(G^*, G); consider the polar C∘C^\circ of CC in GG, the vector subspace of GG generated by C∘C^\circ and a complement of this subspace.) *b) If CC does not contain any affine line, the mapping (x,y)↦x+y(x, y) \mapsto x + y of C×CC \times C in FF is proper. *c) Suppose that CC is a cone with vertex 0 and that the uniform structure induced on CC by that of F is metrisable. Then if the sets I and J, the point x0x_0 and the mapping uu satisfy the conditions of a) then I is enumerable and there exists an enumerable subset H of J such that the restriction of the canonical projection p:RI×RJ→RI×RHp : \mathbf{R}^I \times \mathbf{R}^J \to \mathbf{R}^I \times \mathbf{R}^H to u(x0+C)u(x_0 + C) is an isomorphism of the uniform subspace u(x0+C)u(x_0 + C) of RI×RJ\mathbf{R}^I \times \mathbf{R}^J on the uniform subspace p(u(x0+C))p(u(x_0 + C)) of RI×RH\mathbf{R}^I \times \mathbf{R}^H.
