Topological Vector Spaces, III, p. 41

Let EE and FF be two Hausdorff locally convex spaces, and S\mathfrak{S} a family of bounded subsets of EE. a) Show that if FF is not just 0, then a necessary (and sufficient) condition for LS(E;F)\mathscr{L}_{\mathfrak{S}} (E ; F) to be Hausdorff is that the union of the sets of S\mathfrak{S} is total in EE (use Hahn-Banach th.). b) Suppose that S\mathfrak{S} is a cover for EE. Show that there exists an isomorphism from FF onto a closed subspace of LS(E;F)\mathscr{L}_{\mathfrak{S}} (E ; F). Deduce that if LS(E;F)\mathscr{L}_{\mathfrak{S}} (E ; F) is quasi-complete, then FF is necessarily quasi-complete. c) Suppose that S\mathfrak{S} is a bornology adapted to EE (III, p. 3, def. 4). In order that LS(E;F)\mathscr{L}_{\mathfrak{S}} (E ; F) be metrizable, it is necessary and sufficient that FF is metrizable and that there exists a countable base (III, p. 1) for the bornology S\mathfrak{S}. In order that the S\mathfrak{S}-topology on L(E;F)\mathscr{L}(E ; F) be defined by a single norm it is necessary and sufficient that the topology of FF can be defined by a single norm and that there exists a set M∈SM \in \mathfrak{S} which absorbs every set of S\mathfrak{S}.
