Topological Vector Spaces, IV, p. 60

a) Let E, F be two Fréchet spaces, G a locally convex Hausdorff space and E', F', G' the duals of E, F, G respectively. Let uu be a bilinear mapping from E′×F′E' \times F' into G′G', which is separately continuous (III, p. 28) when E', F', G' are assigned the weak topologies σ(E′,E)\sigma(E', E), σ(F′,F)\sigma(F', F) and σ(G′,G)\sigma(G', G). Show that under these conditions, uu is a continuous mapping from E′×F′E' \times F' into G′G' when E', F' and G' are assigned the strong topologies. (For z∈Gz \in G, put ⟨z,u(x′,y′)⟩=⟨vz(x′),y′⟩\langle z, u(x', y') \rangle = \langle v_z(x'), y' \rangle where vz(x′)∈Fv_z(x') \in F. First show that if E′E' is assigned the strong topology and FF the initial topology, then the set of all vzv_z, as zz ranges over a bounded set CC in GG, is equicontinuous; for this use IV, p. 51, exerc. 19, dd). Next show that there exists a neighbourhood V′V' of 00 for the strong topology of E′E' such that the union of the sets vz(V′)v_z(V') as zz ranges over CC is bounded in FF; for this use III, p. 47, exerc. 5.) b) Give an example to show that the conclusion of a) does not hold if we assume that EE is a Fréchet space and FF a strict inductive limit of Fréchet spaces (III, p. 47, exerc. 3).
