Topological Vector Spaces, IV, p. 69

Let EE be a non reflexive Banach space. Prove that there exists a closed, non reflexive vector subspace MM of infinite codimension in EE. (Let (xn)(x_n) be a bounded sequence in EE which has no limit point for the topology σ(E,E′)\sigma(E, E') (IV, p. 68, exerc. 8); by induction construct a sequence (xnk)(x_{n_k}) extracted from (xn)(x_n) and a topologically free sequence (yk)(y_k) such that ∥xnk−yk∥≤1/k\| x_{n_k} - y_k \| \leq 1/k for k≥1k \geq 1, and consider the closed vector subspace of EE generated by the y2ky_{2k}.)
