Exercise 1, § 2

Functions of a Real Variable, I, 37

Let ff be a real function defined and left continuous on an open interval I=]a,b[I = ]a, b[ in R\mathbf{R}; suppose that at all the points of the complement BB with respect to II of a countable subset of II the function ff is increasing to the right, that is, at every point x∈Bx \in B there exists a yy such that x<y≤bx < y \leq b and such that for all zz such that x≤z<yx \leq z < y one has f(x)≤f(z)f(x) \leq f(z). Show that ff is increasing on II (argue as in prop. 2).
