Functions of a Real Variable, I, 39

Let ff be a vector function defined and continuous on a compact interval I=[a,b]I = [a, b] in R\mathbf{R}, with values in a normed space over R\mathbf{R}. Suppose that ff admits a right derivative at all points of the complement with respect to [a,b[[a, b[ of a countable subset A of this interval. Show that there exists a point x∈]a,b[∩A‾x \in ]a, b[\cap \overline{A} such that

∥f(b)−f(a)∥≤∥fd′(x)∥(b−a). \|f(b) - f(a)\| \leq \|f'_d(x)\|(b - a).
(Argue by contradiction, decomposing [a,b[[a, b[ into three intervals [a,t[[a, t[, [t,t+h[[t, t + h[ and [t+h,b[[t + h, b[ with t∉At \notin A; if k=∥f(b)−f(a)∥/(b−a)k = \|f(b) - f(a)\|/(b - a), note that for hh sufficiently small one has ∥f(t+h)−f(t)∥<k.h\|f(t + h) - f(t)\| < k.h, and use th. 2 of I, p. 15 for the other intervals.)
