Functions of a Real Variable, III, 120

Let D be the subset of C\mathbf{C} which is the union of the set defined by −π<R(z)≤π-\pi < \mathscr{R}(z) \leq \pi, I(z)>0\mathscr{I}(z) > 0, and the segment I(z)=0, 0≤R(z)≤π\mathscr{I}(z) = 0,\ 0 \leq \mathscr{R}(z) \leq \pi. Show that the restriction of the function cos⁡z\cos z to D is a bijection of D onto C\mathbf{C}; the restriction of cos⁡z\cos z to the interior of D is a homeomorphism of this open set onto the complement, in C\mathbf{C}, of the half-line y=0, x≤1y = 0,\ x \leq 1.
