Functions of a Real Variable, III, 120

Let ff and gg be two relatively prime polynomials (with complex coefficients), the degree of ff being strictly less than that of gg. Let K be a subfield of C\mathbf{C} containing the coefficients of ff and gg, and such that gg is irreducible over K. For there to be a primitive of f/gf/g of the form ∑iailog⁡ui\sum_i a_i \log u_i, where the aia_i are constants belonging to K and the uiu_i are irreducible polynomials over K, it is necessary and sufficient that f=cg′f = c g', where cc is a constant in K.
