Functions of a Real Variable, III, 116

Consider a sequence of sets DkD_k (k≥1k \geq 1) and for each kk consider two functions (x1,…,xk)↦fk(x1,…,xk), (x1,…,xk)↦gk(x1,…,xk)(x_1, \ldots, x_k) \mapsto f_k(x_1, \ldots, x_k),\ (x_1, \ldots, x_k) \mapsto g_k(x_1, \ldots, x_k) with real values, where (x1,…,xk)∈D1×D2×⋯×Dk(x_1, \ldots, x_k) \in D_1 \times D_2 \times \cdots \times D_k. Suppose that for every kk there is a real function FkF_k defined on R\mathbf{R} such that for every μ∈R\mu \in \mathbf{R} and arbitrary a1∈D1,…,ak−1∈Dk−1a_1 \in D_1, \ldots, a_{k-1} \in D_{k-1} one has

sup⁡xk∈Dk(μfk(a1,…,ak−1,xk)−gk(a1,…,ak−1,xk))=Fk(μ) fk−1(a1,…,ak−1). \sup_{x_k \in D_k} \left( \mu f_k(a_1, \ldots, a_{k-1}, x_k) - g_k(a_1, \ldots, a_{k-1}, x_k) \right) = F_k(\mu)\ f_{k-1}(a_1, \ldots, a_{k-1}).
(By convention one takes f0=1f_0 = 1.) Show if the sequences of real numbers (μk)(\mu_k) and (δk)(\delta_k) satisfy the conditions F1(μ1)=0F_1(\mu_1) = 0 and Fk(μk)=δkF_k(\mu_k) = \delta_k then one has the inequalities
(μ1−δ2)f1+(μ2−δ3)f2+⋯+(μn−1−δn)fn−1+μnfn≤g1+g2+⋯+gn (\mu_1 - \delta_2) f_1 + (\mu_2 - \delta_3) f_2 + \cdots + (\mu_{n-1} - \delta_n) f_{n-1} + \mu_n f_n \leq g_1 + g_2 + \cdots + g_n
for all values of nn and of xk∈Dkx_k \in D_k.
