Bourbaki

Exercise 4, § 3

Integration, V, p. 97

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

With the spaces T, T', X and the measures μ,μ′,ν\mu, \mu', \nu having the same meaning as in Exer. 3, consider the product space Y=T×X=T×(T×T′)Y = T \times X = T \times (T \times T'), and on Y the product measure ϖ=μ⊗ν\varpi = \mu \otimes \nu. If, for t∈Tt \in T, one sets ρt=εt⊗ν\rho_t = \varepsilon_t \otimes \nu, one has ϖ=∫ρtdμ(t)\varpi = \int \rho_t d\mu(t). Let H be a subset of T that is not measurable for μ\mu (Ch. IV, §4, Exer. 8), and let A be the subset of Y formed by the points (t1,t2,t3)(t_1, t_2, t_3) satisfying the conditions t1=t3t_1 = t_3, t2∈Ht_2 \in H. Show that the characteristic function φA\varphi_A is locally negligible for ϖ\varpi, but that φA\varphi_A is not ρt\rho_t-measurable for any value of t∈Tt \in T.
