Integration, V, p. 111

Denoting by μ\mu the Lebesgue measure on R\mathbf{R}, a point x∈Rx \in \mathbf{R} is said to be a density point of a subset AA of R\mathbf{R} if, when hh and kk tend to 0 through values >0> 0, the quotient μ∗(A∩[x−h,x+k])/(h+k)\mu^*(A \cap [x-h, x+k])/(h+k) tends to 1. Show that the set of points of an arbitrary subset AA of R\mathbf{R} that are not density points of AA is negligible for μ\mu. (Reduce to the case that AA is contained in a compact interval [a,b][a, b], and consider the function sA(x)=μ∗(A∩[a,x])s_A(x) = \mu^*(A \cap [a, x]). Take a decreasing sequence (An)(A_n) of open sets containing AA, such that the series with general term sAn(x)−sA(x)s_{A_n}(x) - s_A(x) is convergent on [a,b][a, b], and use Exer. 13.)
