Exercise 19, § 6

Integration, V, p. 111

Let T,X,YT, X, Y be locally compact spaces, π:T→X\pi : T \to X, π′:X→Y\pi' : X \to Y mappings, π′′=π′∘π\pi'' = \pi' \circ \pi, μ\mu a real measure on TT. It can happen that π\pi is μ\mu-proper and π′\pi' is π(μ)\pi(\mu)-proper, without π′′\pi'' being μ\mu-proper. (Take T=R×{0,1}T = \mathbf{R} \times \{0, 1\}, X=RX = \mathbf{R}, Y={0}Y = \{0\}, π=pr1\pi = \mathrm{pr}_1; take for μ\mu the measure that induces Lebesgue measure (resp. the opposite of Lebesgue measure) on R×{0}\mathbf{R} \times \{0\} (resp. R×{1}\mathbf{R} \times \{1\}) canonically identified with R\mathbf{R}.)
