Exercise 7, § 7

Integration, V, p. 113

Let X, Y be two locally compact spaces, π:X→Y\pi : X \to Y a continuous mapping, T a locally compact subspace of Y, S=π−1(T)S = \pi^{-1}(T), πT:S→T\pi_T : S \to T the mapping that coincides with π\pi in S, and ν\nu a positive measure on Y. Show that the following three conditions are equivalent:

a) If νT\nu_T is the measure induced by ν\nu on T, there exists a positive measure μT\mu_T on S such that πT(μT)=νT\pi_T(\mu_T) = \nu_T.

b) There exists a positive measure λ\lambda on X such that π(λ)=νT\pi(\lambda) = \nu_T.

c) There exists a positive measure λS\lambda_S on S such that (π∣S)(λS)=νT(\pi|S)(\lambda_S) = \nu_T.
