Integration, V, p. 113

Let X, Y be two locally compact spaces, π:X→Y\pi : X \to Y a continuous mapping, and ν\nu a positive measure on Y that is concentrated on π(X)\pi(X). Assume that for every y∈π(X)y \in \pi(X), there exist a neighborhood V of y in Y and a positive measure λV\lambda_V on π−1(V)\pi^{-1}(V) such that the image of λV\lambda_V under the mapping πV:π−1(V)→V\pi_V : \pi^{-1}(V) \to V that coincides with π\pi is equal to the induced measure νV\nu_V. Show that under these conditions, there exists a positive measure μ\mu on X such that π(μ)=ν\pi(\mu) = \nu. (Consider the set G\mathscr{G} of pairs (G,λ)(G, \lambda), where G is open in Y and λ\lambda is a positive measure on X such that π(λ)=νG\pi(\lambda) = \nu_G. Order G\mathscr{G} by the relation «G1⊂G2G_1 \subset G_2 and λ1≤λ2\lambda_1 \leq \lambda_2 » between (G1,λ1)(G_1, \lambda_1) and (G2,λ2)(G_2, \lambda_2). First show that the ordered set G\mathscr{G} is inductive, then complete the argument with the help of Zorn’s lemma and Exer. 7.)
