Exercise 1, § 2

Integration, VII, p. 87

Let GG be a locally compact group, HH a closed subgroup of GG. For ξ∈H\xi \in H, set χ(ξ)=ΔH(ξ)ΔG(ξ)−1\chi(\xi) = \Delta_H(\xi)\Delta_G(\xi)^{-1}. Regard HH as operating on the right in GG by translations. Show that there exists on Xχ(G)\mathscr{X}^\chi(G) a nonzero positive linear form II and, up to a constant factor, only one, that is invariant under left translation. (Make use of Prop. 3 with X=GX = G, while taking μ\mu to be a left Haar measure of GG.)
