Exercise 4, § 2

Integration, VII, p. 88

Let XX be a locally compact space in which a locally compact group HH acts on the right continuously and properly. Let β\beta be a left Haar measure on HH, μ\mu a measure ⩾0\geqslant 0 on XX. Let hh be a continuous function ⩾0\geqslant 0 on XX such that hb=1h^b = 1. If ff is a μ\mu-negligible function ⩾0\geqslant 0 on XX, the function (x,ξ)↦f(x)h(xξ)(x, \xi) \mapsto f(x)h(x\xi) is (μ⊗β)(\mu \otimes \beta)-negligible on X×HX \times H. (There exist decreasing open sets Ω1,Ω2,…\Omega_1, \Omega_2, \ldots such that μ(Ωn)\mu(\Omega_n) tends to 0 and such that ff is zero outside Ω1∩Ω2∩⋯\Omega_1 \cap \Omega_2 \cap \cdots. Show that ∫∗φΩn(x)h(xξ)dμ(x)dβ(ξ)⩽μ(Ωn)\int^* \varphi_{\Omega_n}(x)h(x\xi) d\mu(x)d\beta(\xi) \leqslant \mu(\Omega_n), on observing that the function (x,ξ)↦φΩn(x)h(xξ)(x, \xi) \mapsto \varphi_{\Omega_n}(x)h(x\xi) is lower semi-continuous.)
