Let (Gℓ)ℓ∈I(G_\ell)_{\ell \in I} be a family of locally compact groups, all but finitely many of them compact. Let UℓU_\ell be a continuous linear representation of GℓG_\ell in a locally convex space EℓE_\ell. For every s=(sℓ)∈G=∏ℓGℓs = (s_\ell) \in G = \prod_\ell G_\ell, let U(s)U(s) be the endomorphism (xℓ)↦(Uℓ(s)xℓ)(x_\ell) \mapsto (U_\ell(s)x_\ell) of E=∏ℓEℓE = \prod_\ell E_\ell. Show that UU is a continuous linear representation of GG in EE. Let E′E' be the topological direct sum of the EℓE_\ell. Let V(s)V(s) be the restriction of U(s)U(s) to E′E'. Show that VV is a continuous linear representation of GG in E′E'.
