Let gg be a Lie algebra, ρ\rho a finite-dimensional representation of gg and EE the associative endomorphism algebra generated by 11 and ρ(g)\rho(g). Show that the largest nilpotency ideal nn of ρ\rho is equal to the set n′n' of x∈gx \in g such that Tr(ρ(x)u)=0\mathrm{Tr}(\rho(x)u) = 0 for all u∈Eu \in E. (To show that n′⊂nn' \subset n, show that n′n' is an ideal and that for all x∈n′x \in n' the semi-simple component of ρ(x)\rho(x) is zero, by noting that Tr((ρ(x))n)=0\mathrm{Tr}((\rho(x))^n) = 0 for every integer n>0n > 0.)
