Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, I, 101

Let gg be a Lie algebra over an arbitrary field KK, AA a commutative associative algebra over KK and g′=g⊗KAg' = g \otimes_K A, which can be considered as a Lie algebra over KK.

(a) If DD is a derivation of AA, show that there exists one and only one derivation D′D' of g′g' such that D′(x⊗a)=x⊗DaD'(x \otimes a) = x \otimes Da for x∈g,a∈Ax \in g, a \in A.

(b) Let pp be a prime number, GG a cyclic group of order pp and ss a generator of GG. Suppose that KK is of characteristic pp and henceforth let AA be the algebra of GG over KK. Show that there exists one and only one derivation DD of AA such that D(sk)=ksk−1D(s^k) = ks^{k-1} for all k∈Zk \in \mathbf{Z}. Show that the KK-linear combinations of the x⊗(s−1)kx \otimes (s-1)^k (k=1,2,…,p−1,x∈gk = 1, 2, \ldots, p-1, x \in g) form a solvable ideal rr of g′g' and that g′/rg'/r is isomorphic to gg.

(c) Take gg to be simple (cf. § 6, no. 2, Definition 2). Then rr is the radical of g′g' but is not a characteristic ideal. (Observe that D(x⊗(s−1))=1⊗xD(x \otimes (s-1)) = 1 \otimes x.)[^1]
