Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, I, 99

Let gg be a solvable Lie algebra such that the conditions x∈g, y∈g, [[x,y],y]=0x \in g,\ y \in g,\ [[x, y], y] = 0 imply [x,y]=0[x, y] = 0. Show that gg is commutative. (Let kk be the largest integer such that Dk−1g≠{0}, Dkg={0}\mathscr{D}^{k-1}g \neq \{0\},\ \mathscr{D}^k g = \{0\}. Assuming k≥2k \geq 2, show first that [Dk−2g,Dk−1g]={0}[\mathscr{D}^{k-2}g, \mathscr{D}^{k-1}g] = \{0\} and then that [Dk−2g,Dk−2g]={0}[\mathscr{D}^{k-2}g, \mathscr{D}^{k-2}g] = \{0\}, whence a contradiction.)
