Exercise 3, § 8

Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, II, 206

Suppose that KK contains a primitive pp-th root of unity ww. We write π=w−1\pi = w-1. Using the formula

wi−1=π(1+w+⋯+wi−1) w^i - 1 = \pi(1 + w + \cdots + w^{i-1})
show that v(wi−1)=v(π)v(w^i - 1) = v(\pi) for 1≤i≤p−11 \leq i \leq p-1 and that
wi−1π≡i(modπ). \frac{w^i - 1}{\pi} \equiv i \pmod{\pi}.
Deduce, by means of the formula p=∏i=1p−1(wi−1)p = \prod_{i=1}^{p-1} (w^i - 1), that π\pi is admissible (Exercise 1).
