Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, II, 206

Let cc be an integer ≥1\geq 1 and let PP be a set of prime numbers containing all prime numbers ≤c\leq c. Let ZP=SP−1Z\mathbf{Z}_P = S_P^{-1}\mathbf{Z} (§ 4, Exercise 16). Show that the terms of degree ≤c\leq c in the Hausdorff series H(U,V)H(U, V) belong to LZP({U,V})L_{\mathbf{Z}_P}(\{U, V\}). Deduce

that, if gg is a nilpotent Lie Zp\mathbf{Z}_p-algebra of class ≤c\leq c, the law of composition (u,v)↦H(u,v)(u, v) \mapsto H(u, v) makes gg into a P-torsion-free P-divisible nilpotent group of class ≤c\leq c. Show that conversely every group with these properties can be obtained by this process. (Use "the inversion of the Hausdorff formula", cf. § 6, Exercise 4, and show that the exponents α(m),β(m)\alpha(m), \beta(m) which appear there belong to Zp\mathbf{Z}_p when l(m)≤cl(m) \leq c.)

In particular, every pp-group of order pnp^n and class <p<p can be obtained by means of the Hausdorff law from a nilpotent Lie Z\mathbf{Z}-algebra of class <p<p with pnp^n elements. (Take P to be the set of prime numbers distinct from pp.)
