Let GG be a group of class CrC^r (§ 5, Exercise 1) with r⩾2r \geqslant 2. There exists on GG one and only one real Lie group structure SS such that the underlying manifold structure of class CrC^r of SS is the given structure. (The uniqueness of SS follows from Corollary 1 to Theorem 1. Let L(G)L(G) be the normable Lie algebra associated with GG in Exercise 2 of § 5. There exist a real Lie group germ G′G' and an isomorphism hh of L(G′)L(G') onto L(G)L(G) (§ 4, Theorem 3). Verify as in § 4, no. 1 that there exist a symmetric open neighbourhood G′′G'' of eGe_G in G′G' and a mapping ϕ\phi of class CrC^r of G′′G'' into GG such that Te(ϕ)=hT_e(\phi) = h and ϕ(g1g2)=ϕ(g1)ϕ(g2)\phi(g_1g_2) = \phi(g_1)\phi(g_2) for g1,g2g_1, g_2 in G′′G''. By shrinking G′′G'', it can be assumed that V=ϕ(G′′)V = \phi(G'') is open in GG and that ϕ\phi is an isomorphism of class CrC^r of the manifold G′′G'' onto the manifold VV. There therefore exists on VV a real Lie group germ structure such that the underlying manifold structure of class CrC^r is the given structure. For all g∈Gg \in G, Int gg defines as analytic mapping of V∩(g−1Vg)V \cap (g^{-1}Vg) onto (gVg−1)∩V(gVg^{-1}) \cap V (Theorem 1). By Proposition 18 of § 1, there exists on GG a real Lie group structure SS inducing the same analytic structure as VV on an open neighbourhood of ee. By translation, the underlying manifold structure of class CrC^r of SS on GG is the given structure.)
